This is the second post in our series of tutorials on how to add different customer networks to your MetaMask wallet, in this case, Avalanche blockchain.
In the previous post, we learned about the Ethereum-based MetaMask wallet, as well as, how to install and configure it on both, your mobile and preferred web browser. Now that you understand the MetaMask wallet, we can start by focusing on adding the Avalanche network.
How to Add Avalanche Network?
Click on the drop-down menu on the top of your wallet, and select “Add Network” from the options.
You’ll be taken to a new tab, wherein you are required to add details. Use the following information to fill in:
As soon as you click on the “Save” tab, you’ll see the network has already changed to Avalanche, and all the units in your wallet are in AVAX denominations. You’ll also see a notification at the bottom of the page, saying the network was added successfully to your wallet.
Now that you know how to add Avalanche to your MetaMask, it’s time to import the contract address for AVAX before transacting.
How to Import Avalanche-Compatible Contract Addresses?
On the above screenshot, you can see “Assets” and “Activity”. The former represents the tokens, while the latter represents your interaction with the Avalanche network.
Adding assets essentially means you can add a token contract address to store Avalanche-compatible NFTs or to participate in the latest IDO. Either way, the addresses you’ll probably want to add to the list are assets you are already familiar with, which will allow you to transact freely via your preferred DEX. Since we are using Avalanche blockchain, the most popular DEX is Pangolin.
In order to import tokens, click on “import tokens”, which will allow you to add tokens of your choice.
Clicking on “import tokens” will take you to a new tab, wherein you need to fill in the details of the token you want to import. For example, if you want to add USDT, fill in the following information:
Token Symbol – USDT
Token Contract – 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955
Token Decimal – 18
Click on “Add Custom Token”, confirm the transaction, and you’d have added USDT to your MetaMask wallet.
Note: The internet is full of malicious actors trying to take advantage of the naiveness of new users. So, always check that you are integrating the right address before transferring any funds. At the same time, try with a small amount to confirm whether you have gotten the right address.
How to Fund Your Wallet with AVAX?
Go to your MetaMask wallet, and copy the address. However, make sure that you are on the Avalanche network.
Enter the copied address into the platform where you have held the AVAX tokens. If they are on Avalanche native wallet, click on the “cross-chain” option listed on the left of the wallet.
Now select the “C Chain (Contract) as the destination chain, as well as the amount you’d like to transfer, and then click on “Confirm”.
Once the transaction is confirmed, you’ll be able to see AVAX into your MetaMask wallet. Now, you can send AVAX to your contacts or use them to participate in DEX offerings.
